Microsoft Word 1.00 for DOS
The Microsoft Word word processor was first introduced for MS-DOS in 1983. Its design made use of a mouse and WYSIWYG graphics. Its crude WYSIWYG/mouse support was a direct response to the Apple Lisa/Mac, and VisiCorp Visi On. Initially it competed against many popular word processors such as WordStar, Multimate, and WordPerfect. Word for DOS was never really successful. This archive contains the following disks: Microsoft Word 1.0 Disk 1 - System Disk Microsoft Word 1.0 Disk 2 - Program Disk Archive includes two 5.25" 160k floppy disk images, in Kryoflux, SuperCard Pro, and Transcopy format. Note: This software contains copy protection, and no unprotect is provided. Protection type: Odd sized/bad sectors on track 39 Note: These disks are formatted for DOS 1.x and Winimage will not open them.

Microsoft Word 2.00 for DOS
Word 2.0 for DOS adds support for IBM EGA, support for additional printers, enhanced for DOS 2.0, and includes Microsoft Spell 2.0. It was criticized for having slower file access than its competitors. Requires: 256KB RAM, DOS 2.0 or later, two double-sided floppy disk drives or a hard drive. Important: This software contains copy protection. No unprotect is provided or known to exist. When installed to a hard drive, it does not check for the floppy. Therefore, it may be easier to copy the files in HDFiles to a C:\ on an emulated image or hard drive. This archive includes images in CopyIIPC+Snatchit and Transcopy format.

Microsoft Word 1.00 PC World Demo 1.00
Microsoft Word 1.00 PC World Demo Released in 1983 by Microsoft For IBM PCs running DOS This archive contains one 160k floppy disk image. This is the Microsoft Word demo disk sent out with copies of PC World in 1983. It requires an IBM PC running DOS and at least 128k of ram. Note that this demo is limited in its functionality and can not save documents. The Word demo is not copy protected. To run the Word demo, copy the files from the Files folder to a desired location (a folder or disk) and run word.com using DOSBox. A "raw" 160k disk image is included. It can be mounted as a drive on an emulator such as MESS, and run from there, or it can be written to a real floppy. Note that the disk was formatted for DOS 1.x and is therefore not compatible with WinImage or other utilities that expect a standard DOS disk. An "ImageDisk" image is also included. Use the ImageDisk program to write it to a floppy disk. The image is a little strange. Although it is an 8-sector 160k format, the image has 9 sectors per track with the 9th being blank. Also, the image was read with a 1.2mb drive, so you must specify 300->250 when writing with a 360k drive.

Microsoft Word 1.15 for DOS 1.15
Microsoft Word 1.15 for DOS Released in 1984 by Microsoft For IBM Personal Computers The easiest way to get started with Microsoft Word 1.15 is to copy the folders in HDFiles to a folder, mount that folder as C: in DOSBox, change to C:\WORD and run WORD. Note: The DOSBox mouse driver may have some redrawing issues with Word. Note: This software contains copy protection, and no unprotect is provided. It appears that it only checks the copy protection if it is run from a floppy. This archive contains the following disks: Microsoft Word 1.15 Disk 1 - Program Disk Microsoft Word 1.15 Disk 2 - Utilities Disk Learning Microsoft Word Microsoft Mouse Bus Version (2.50) Microsoft Word 1.15 - Program Disk Backup Copy Raw and ImageDisk images are provided, however they will not create a usable Program Disk 1. To create a usable Microsoft Word program disk 1, see the file "makeword.txt" in the writeprt folder.
