Why did he created the OS in a closed source model?
He could quietly opened the source code under CDDL- a license that don't let your propriety unprotected and that, at the same time, isn't a imperialistic copyleft GNU license.
It's just my opinion.
I hate to see great software being proprietary because the creators fear GNU imperialistic autists or that their code will get stolen by a big company.
tl;dr: man, if you're reading this, use CDDL and let it free!
