I have been using q&a ver 4 for over 20 years for several different applications. I have never experienced any of the issues reported, and would give anything to find current sw that works like this on windows or linux. Sesame may be ok for some, but wont do everything i do in qa4, or as simply, and is way more complex than i need.
easydatabase on android is closest, but theres nothing that works as well and as easily as qa4, running best on winxp.

Regarding the general protection fault in QA Windows, that's a known problem. A replacement .dll WAS available from JohnTDow.com but he died in January 2018. From his website: People trying to use Q&A for Windows on Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows NT or Windows 2000 have been disappointed to see it crash immediately. The problem is the QABCL.DLL which this fixes.

Our company still uses Q&A 4 for DOS. The bottom line is there is no way to access the database with other software.
The only possibility is to download the free personal version of Sesame from Lantica software. That is a modern DBMS from an independent company but it was designed to be able to access QA databases. You can "translate" the QA database to Sesame format and then access the Sesame version.
However, Q&A was really written for people without a programming background who were too cheap to hire a developer or who just wanted something real basic such as a telephone index or recipe database. It is EXTREMELY sloppy, allowing things like text in currency fields. Before doing an import you need to know Q&A's weird syntax to be able to detect the bad data and fix it before doing the translation.

Dear all,
I am just looking for a (free) tool to convert the Q&A 4.0 for Windows *.dtf extension to *.txt.
Please your swift reply.
