Well I got it to work. Fantastic. Toom me a while to work out how to negotiate the pages and I still have to figure out how to remove the password I put in 16 years ago - assuming I can remember what that was. But the software works. Many thanks Vetusware!
This may be accademic by the time someone reads and responds to it. However here goes. Have a 1994 disk with info on. Document in wordperfect and was password protected. So cant read using word without unprotecting. There need WP51. Have tried to use with windows as a longshot but am assuming that this is not possible. Anyone got any suggestions in non-techie language for me? Incidentally, this website is the nearest I have come to getting any solution to my problem.

Tried downloading some old Borland database stuff, message said not available, administrator notified. Did a couple, same message. Then tried this program, and notice was that I have reached my daily limit. Maybe when a file is not available, how about not counting it as a download?? Thanks

I have an ancient 5.1 version that I love. My computer crashed and have a new computer with Vista. My 5.1 of course, will not work. I have years of stored data on 3" disks that I need to use. I tried your X4 and that doesn't help. What can I do to use a wordperfect program that will let me access my 5.1 data disks. I am not computer literate AT ALL and hire a tech to do stuff. What can I tell him..... My original 5.1 was on a 5" floppy but my old hard drive can be accessed. He put in on my vista but can't print anything or access 3" drive. .....progress....sucks

Seems to be working, in XP. 1 - Just extract contents WP51.ZIP into its own (or empty folder). 2 - Click WP51.bat and it runs in a window. I'm sure some already mentioned that somewhere below by someone else. This saved me from digging out all those old floppies and reinstalling. That would have been a time consuming mess! Ah - the old days of proper word processing. Happy days.

I downloaded the 11 disks as Disk 1, Disk 2....Disk 11 in a WP51Disks folder on my HD. Then copied each to a separate 1.44 MB Disk as 1 thru 11. So if i take each disk and put it in the A: drive, and go to command prompt in Windows and type C:\label A:WORDPERFECT and hit enter, and do this separately from all 11 disks, then I can use these disks in my A: drive to install WP51?.

hi, No man, you have, in fact, to install either from real/physical floppy disks or from virtual floppy disks (a.k.a. disk images). The later is more convenient. Just copy the contents of those directories to the corresponding disk images you will have created. You can use WinImage for this task. Google it. As to changing the volume label, at the command prompt, type: C:\>LABEL A:WORDPERFECT hope this helps, NetWalker Rio de Janeiro / Brazil

On Thursday February 19, 2009 NetWalker said: If you wish to install from those floppies, you need to change their volume label to WORDPERFECT. see included "readme.txt" I stored 11 disks on hard drive, put them in a folder called "Wordperfect" then opened disk 1, clicked on install.exe, started the install process, but when it asks me to insert another disk and I hit enter, then nothing happens. It can not find another disk beyond Disk 1. How do I label the volume as Wordperfect, like you said - if not by putting all the disks in a "Wordperfect" folder?

I downloaded to save, then extracted all files to C:\program file\WP51, then right clicked on WP.exe and sent a shortcut to desktop. If you get a small window screen then press ALT + Enter to get full screen. Works fine.

This is one of the top three programs ever written for DOS and still ranks up there as one of the most successful programs ever. I still prefer to use WordPerfect 5.1 to any version of MS Word.

Wordperft 5.1 is the best word processor ever made. It is superior to Microsoft Word, and to later editions of Wordperfect. I find it far easier to edit and manage documents in Worldperfect 5.1 than in these other softwares. Bill Gates and Microsoft did the world a GREAT DISSERVICE by putting Wordperfect 5.1 on the back bench. He replaced a SUPERB SOFTWARE with something FAR INFERIOR (MS Word). Microsoft should BRING BACK WORDPERFECT 5.1!!

WP51 is an excellent word-processing program for DOS. I still, in 2006, use it. It has a screen interface which is pleasant for the eye and an excellent macro-function, which, among other things, enables the user to save on several media in one go.
